The Reunion is not compatible with Steam achievements, cloud saves and the trainer. However, The Reunion can be disabled using 'DisableTheReunion = y' in its Options files, so the player can switch between 'Steam mode' and 'Reunion mode'.To install The Reunion, you will need both version 6 and the latest hotfix (found on page 226 of forum thread). The setup will make a new folder called 'TheReunion'. You can customize the installer to use official names (e.g. Marlene, Phoenix Down) or literal translated versions (Marin, Phoenix Tail).
Saves will now be stored in the 'save' folder in the root directory. After installing, only very basic functionalities are enabled.
Features such as model overhaul, transparent textboxes, etc, need to be changed from 'n' to 'y' in the Options file.Note that ', which is no longer supported in newer versions of The Reunion, does not apply to this version of the game and has never worked on it. Instead, Steam users have 'MENU ENHANCEMENT'. A comparison between the original (left) and Reunion (right). Visible mods include centered and upscaled backgrounds, transparent textboxes, realistic models, and a more faithful script.

Note that this will cause slight pixelation on the backgrounds. The Remako HD Graphics Mod is a mod that completely revamps the pre-rendered backgrounds. All of the backgrounds now have 4 times the resolution of the original.
Using AI neural networks, this upscaling tries to emulate the detail the original renders would have had.

Final Fantasy VIII is a 1999 role-playing video game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix). It is the eighth major installment in the Final Fantasy series.
The game was the series' second 3D installment and the first to consistently use realistically proportioned characters, and introduced a new magic system to the Final Fantasy franchise which removed magic point-based spell-casting.
Plot
Set on an unnamed fantasy world with science fiction elements, the game follows the story of a group of young mercenaries, led by Squall Leonhart, who are part of an organization named SeeD.
Initially traveling to different countries to stop the sorceress Edea, their goal changes to stop a sorceress from the future named Ultimecia from compressing time.
Why It Rocks
- The rivalry between Seifer and Squall is one of the best of a video game.
- The junction system allows for full party stat customization.
- Lots of awesome summons, like the recurring Ifrit, Shiva, Ramuh and Bahamut, as well as new ones such as Alexander and the Doom Train.
- Beautiful graphics and environments.
- Stellar soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu.
- Well constructed plot with lots of plot twists.
- The game fixes the clash of art style found in Final Fantasy VII, with detailed and realistic character models used with motion capture techniques from actors in motion capture suits, even when not in battle.
- The enemies level up as you do, which makes it possible to finish the game with a low level party.
- Many side quests and hidden secrets.
- The Triple Triad game is simple, but addicting as it allows you to get useful items for Quistis Blue Magic, spare parts for weapon upgrades and useful items such as the Status Guard.
- The plot involves time traveling and paradoxes.
- Squall is not your typical friendly-type protagonist, some liked it, and some didn´t.
- Level Grinding is completely optional and the no encounter ability by Diablos is useful if you don't want to waste time with random battle encounters.
- You can fight Cactaurs at the edge of Kashkabald Desert close to Cactaur Island using Squalls Gunblade and Selphie's Strange Vision to kill Cactars for grinding 20 AP points.
- You can draw useful guardian summons from boss battles.
- The Tonberries has useful abilities including Call Shop, Familiar, Haggle, Sell High. This can be useful if you want to use the money trick for more money.
Bad Qualities
- You can draw up to 9 magic spells per turn taking about 12 turns just to complete that drawing magic spell to 100.
- The Queen of Hearts sidequest can be a major pain to play especially if you want her to travel where you want her to go to. Good luck getting the rare cards from her.
- Pushing all the buttons on your controller to playing 8 notes of the Organ for the Rosetta Stone can be a pain to get and do. (You may as well just get 100 curse spikes to refine 1 Shaman Stone to refine it into 1 Rosetta Stone.)
- The Steam version of the game has a terrible synthesized version of the soundtrack, where a whole dimension to the soundtrack has been lost and some of the tracks even sound distorted, such as the victory fanfare where one of the instruments is playing in the wrong octave. Thankfully, fans have released a mod to fix this issue.
- The terrible remaster version on the PS4 not helping either is the censorship.
- Squall does come off as whiny and annoying at times.
Reception
The game was a commercial success; 13 weeks after its release, Final Fantasy VIII had earned more than US$50 million in sales, making it the fastest-selling Final Fantasy title of all time until Final Fantasy XIII, a multi-platform release. The game shipped 8.15 million copies worldwide by March 31, 2003.
Originally for the PlayStation, it was later ported to Windows-based personal computers and became available on PlayStation Network as a PS1 Classics title in 2009. As of December 2013, it has sold over 8.5 million copies worldwide.
Trivia
- Even though the pocketstation support was Japan only it still is available in the western version.
